Shopify

Shopify is a widely used e-commerce platform with a reputation for providing high-quality business development resources to start-ups and experienced retailers.

When setting up your new Shopify store, you might or possibly want to remove the Powered by Shopify text or link developed by Shopify from your store’s footer area.

The first time you create a store, the text is displayed at the website's footer so that the public knows that it was created from Shopify. Shopify is an easy-to-use eCommerce platform that anyone can use to build an online website for product sales.

A lot of Shopify store owners do not want the “Powered by Shopify” to ensure the footer stays clean, rather than making it known to users that Shopify created the store. Since most dropshipping stores utilize Shopify, other store owners may not want their business to fall into this sector.

What is Powered by Shopify?

Powered by Shopify means the operating system of your eCommerce site is a property of Shopify. As a Shopify subscription customer, licensing their website building software and hosting services offers you a simplified way to create a complex e-commerce site. Due to this, the label Powered by Shopify label is placed at the footer of all new stores and on the password page.

To make things clearer, the link or tag is not a way of taking advantage of new Shopify merchants. They are only proud of their products and want to show off what retailers can achieve with their eCommerce architecture and free themes.

However, it is perfectly understandable if entrepreneurs who want to be more serious and want to take their business out of Shopify to maintain a sense of independence, autonomy, and self-reliance remove the link. Fortunately, powered by Shopify involves a simple deletion process, and the methods are listed below.

How to remove powered by Shopify

Generally, there are two methods of deleting or removing the Powered by Shopify link from the footer:

  • Edit language option
  • Edit code option

The two methods are listed above, and you can select any options you can comfortably use.

Removing “Powered by Shopify” through Edit Language Option

Step 1

The process starts by signing into your Shopify dashboard, select the Online Store on the sidebar by your left hand, and a list of different activities will be displayed.

Step 2

Click “Themes,” you will see two sections on the right-hand side of the screen; the Current theme and the Debut theme. On the Debut theme section, click the drop-down, and different actions will be shown. From the action list, choose the ‘Edit Language’

Step 3

Type the keyword “Powered” in the Filter Translations section, and the search result for ‘Powered by Shopify’ will be displayed.

Step 4

Go to the Powered by Shopify section and position the cursor in the box where you see the grey text; Powered by Shopify, input space, and the text is deleted. Click the Save button. Powered by Shopify text is removed from the footer.

How to remove Powered by Shopify using Edit Code Option

Step 1

This option has a similar process with the ‘Edit Language option’ at first. In the Shopify dashboard, select Themes; on the right side of your screen, two sections will be displayed; Current theme and Debut theme. On the same Debut section, select the Action drop-down, a list of actions will be shown. Click on the ‘Edit Code’ in the action list, the setting page for the ‘Edit code’ in the Debut theme will be displayed.

Step 3

Type ‘Footer’ in the search field, the sections where the footer is stored will appear. Click on the footer.liquid file to display the file. On your PC, press Ctrl F or command + F on Mac, then type powered by in the search field.

Step 4

Go to the “Powered by,” choose the whole line, and delete it. Also, you will find another Powered by Link. If there is, select the line tool and delete the whole line.

Although it is different for various themes, there may be many instances of this code in parentheses that you need to delete. Click the down arrow on the search bar to find the other cases. After deleting them all, click Save in the top right corner.

And that's exactly how you managed to remove Powered by Shopify from your eCommerce store footer.

Additional Tip

It is important that you note that the method above applies to the new version of Shopify. Therefore, if you are on the older version, you can follow the steps below.

Step 3: Input "footer" in the search box. The section where the footer file is saved will be displayed.

Step 4: Open the file ‘theme.liquid’ to display it. On windows, press CTRL F while for mac command + F and then enter powered in the search field.
